21THE ENCOUNTER
Discover D-Day at a human scale. Charles, the narrative thread of this theatrical encounter, takes travellers back to the morning of 6 June 1944. On the beach, the story brings a human perspective to these places of remembrance.
Charles is the narrative thread of the encounter. His theatrical account explores D-Day through an American GI’s perspective; it is not the documented biography of a real soldier. The beach and its remains provide a setting for considering the operation’s scale and human consequences.
The performance focuses on the human dimension of D-Day: courage, fear, suffering and solidarity. It guides travellers towards a sensitive understanding of memorial sites alongside a Normandy itinerary. Two formats allow different amounts of time; route and duration are confirmed when planning the group.
